LibreOffice is a productivity suite that is compatible with other major office suites, and available on a variety of platforms. It is a community driven and developed software, and it is a project of the non-profit organization called The Document Foundation.

LibreOffice is developed by its users, who believe in the principles of Free Software and in sharing their work with the world in non-restrictive ways. The four important freedoms and views of The Document Foundation's Next Decade Manifesto control the above mentioned principles of Free Software.

LibreOffice believes that users should have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change, and improve the software that it distributes. It offers downloads of the LibreOffice suite at free of cost. It campaigns for these freedoms as LibreOffice believes that everyone deserves them.

LibreOffice works to obtain its goals by providing unfettered access to its office productivity tools at no cost; encouraging the translation, documentation, and support of its software in one's own language; and promoting and actively participating in the creation and development of open standards and Free Software via open and transparent peer-review processes.

Through the use of copyleft licenses such as the GNU Lesser General Public License, Mozilla Public License, and Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License, it commits to protecting its clients rights as developers and content creators.

LibreOffice has received many awards including, RCA 2013 Winner of Favorite Office Software Templates; LnF Awards 2013 for Most Favourite Light and Fast (LnF) Applications of 2013; and 2013 Linux New Media Award for ""Best Open Source Presentation Software.
