The ATM Forum

The ATM Forum Profile and History

The ATM Forum is a non-profit international association of more than 160 organizations representing all sectors of the world's computer and communication industries, as well as government agencies, research organizations and end users. Established in 1991, it is dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of ATM and other broadband communications technologies that enable existing infr astructures and new service technologies to take advantage of ATM's inherent QoS (Quality of Service), security and management features. The Forum is focused on the development of interworking and interoperability specifications, promotion of industry-wide cooperation and education of the marketplace on the evolution and capabilities of ATM and broadband technologies. The ATM Forum's mission is to: Develop ATM interworking and interoperability specifications Promote the acceptance and implementation of ATM and other broadband technologies, applications and services, based on national and international standards, through industry cooperation and education of the marketplace on the evolution and capabilities of ATM and other broadband technologies, and Support the advancement and convergence of technologies that enhance ATM and other broadband markets. The ATM Forum consists of a global Technical Committee (TC), a User Committee, and a Market Awareness Committee. The ATM Forum is led by an elected Board of Directors and supported by four offices located in San Francisco, Boston, London, and Tokyo.
