SUNY Profile and History

The State University of New York (SUNY), founded in 1948, is the largest comprehensive higher education system in the United States. SUNY encompasses 64 colleges and universities across New York State, offering a wide range of academic programs from associate to doctoral degrees. The system includes four academic health centers, five hospitals, four medical schools, two dental schools, a law schoo l, and a college of optometry. SUNY also manages a US Department of Energy National Laboratory and provides extensive continuing education and community outreach programs.
