National Employee Freedom Week is a national effort to inform union employees about the freedoms they have to opt out of union membership and let them make the decision that's best for them. Often that choice is freeing themselves from union membership, becoming an agency fee payer, or identifying as a religious/conscientious objector. Additionally, many employees are thrilled to learn that altern ative professional associations provide better benefits and professional development opportunities for a fraction of the cost of union membership. Every employee has the freedom to make the decision about union membership that's best for him or her. NEFW empowers workers by informing them of their choices, sharing alternatives that may better serve their needs and providing them the resources needed to make the choice that's best for them. National Employee Freedom Week runs from August 20 to 26, 2017, and is a coalition of national, state and local organizations dedicated to employee freedom. Employees in Right-to-Work states have the freedom to leave their union entirely - with no loss of employment, salaries, benefits or seniority. Although, the choice of workers in non-Right-to-Work states about whether or not to leave a union entirely is restricted, these employees can choose to become agency fee payers or identify as a religious/conscientious objector. Click on your state to learn more about your options and alternatives and download a generic opt-out letter. Why are employees freeing themselves from unions? While declining union membership has been occurring for years, each employee's reasons for leaving is different.
