Medine Profile and History

The Medine Group is a major local economic player, listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (Development and Entreprise Market). Founded in 1911 as a sugar growing and manufacturing company, the latter has successfully diversified its activities to include new pillars of activity, such as Property Development, Education, Leisure and Agriculture. All projects are being spelt-out through the Medine Masterplan, which provides the framework for a sustainable development of the 10,000 hectares land bank of the Group. Uniciti - Medine’s Smart City - has recently been unveiled and is the fruit of a collaborative approach from town planners, engineers, landscapers and local as well as international architects to propose a model of community living that hold Education at his breast. Based on a Live-Work-Enjoy & Learn philosophy, Uniciti is a large-scale project that will leave its mark for the future generations. \nThis new urban neighbourhood, through Uniciti Education Hub, is already bringing around Middlesex University, a renowned university from the UK and caters for pre-primary, primary and secondary studies through, respectively, l’Ile aux enfants and West Coast. Medine ambitions to anchor the development of Uniciti Education Hub around quality education and executive training that matches the country’s vision of being a knowledge hub. The Groups has embarked in a process of diversification of its Agro activities and has, since 2012, successfully positioned its key produce “Jardins de Medine” on the local market. New fruit and vegetables are regularly added to the basket since and the brand is now recognised as a leader in all supermarkets where it can be purchased. The Agro cluster has also taken over the poultry activity of SODIA and acts as a Contract Grower. Tamarina (Mauritius) and Casela World of Adventures complete the Group’s offer in the Leisure segment.
