AAUW Profile and History

Founded in 1881 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors which includes 1,000 branches and 600 college/university institution partners. AAUW network of local branches are located across the continental United States and Alaska formed into state and national components. AAUW members hav e examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day which include educational, social, economic and political. In addition to the benefits offered all AAUW members, branch members enjoy opportunities to network at the local level, sponsor community action projects to promote equity, serve in branch leadership positions and lobby local and state legislators on AAUW priority issues.
